Welcome to the Turning Circles!

The Turning Circles are a transformative group format where we journey through our pain for the world to loving action.

Together, we lean into grieving as an invitation to recalibrate our lives within crises and ecological breakdown.

We harness these initiatory powers as we come to an embodied understanding of our interconnectedness with the living world around us. Together, we seek, listen, and wonder, “What is love asking of me right now?”

What do Turning Circles look like?

We will gather online four times over the course of a month and journey through the following pillars together. The Turning Circles are a spiral process of inner (and outer) development that can be repeated to dive deeper into each dimension. In these four gatherings, we will rely on creativity, sharing circles, introspection, and many other tools.

  1. Gathering: Getting to know each other and preparing for the journey ahead.

  2. Gathering: Facing our predicament and holding space for our emotions

  3. Gathering: Surrendering control and feeling carried. Opening to connectedness and oneness with the Earth around us.

  4. Gathering: Leaning into humility and gratitude to ground ourselves in loving action.

What is the whole procedure?

If you are interested in participating, please message me through the contact form below. I will then reach out to you once a new round has started. We will have a short in-take conversation to get to know each other and align expectations. All gatherings will take place online via Zoom and take an estimated 90 minutes. In between the sessions, I offer small tasks that help to deepen the process. In every session, there will be a care person who is a trained therapist helping us to hold a grounding space.

Who can join the Turning Circles?

Anyone is welcome to join! We believe that there is a much needed opportunity for transformation hidden in group work. However, we want you to check in with yourself if you have the capacity and willingness to dive into your eco-emotions at this moment. We also emphasize that the Turning Circles are spaces of respect and mutual listening and cannot tolerate any racist, sexist or otherwise harmful behavior. That being said, we are keen to create an open, welcoming, trusting space for everyone!

What does it cost?

The Turning Circles are on a give-what-you-can donation base. The sliding scale employed is between 70 and 140 euros for a total of four sessions. To break down barriers, we offer free participation for anyone faced with systemic oppression, especially activists from the Global South, as current measures to support eco-emotions are still heavily skewed to benefit people in the Global North.

Who is behind it?

My name is Klara!

Let me tell you a bit about my background.

I was 17 when massive Fridays for Future protest swept the streets, awakening me to urgency and depth of the climate catastrophe. Together with a small group of people, we started organizing protest in the small Bavarian town where I grew up. Despite the empowering feeling of protesting next to hundreds of likeminded people, in the quite moments when immersing myself more and more into climate news, I soon felt more desperate and speechless about the lack of global action. Yet, none of the loving people in my life seemed to be able to compassionately bear witness to my bottomless distress after reading about a 4—degree warmer world, or mass extinction of wildlife. My pain felt muted.

So what did I do?

I started researching eco-emotions and slowly came across Renée Lertzman, the Work that Reconnects, and Psychologists for Future, and many others. To better understand grief and to learn how to hold space for this transforming process, I trained for two years to become a grief counselor with Chris Paul, confronting me with other personal losses that were waiting to be felt. Wanting to immerse myself further, I interned with the Climate Psychology Alliance and researched how young people can cope with eco-emotions. The information gathered in a toolkit can be seen on the blog page. For the past four years, I have been developing the Turning Circles based on research, creativity, my own experience, and much listening to knowledgeable others, young burnt-out activists, and the humming of our changing world.
